Fifield Companies was Development Consultant to Accor: Fifield Companies was retained by Accor, one of the world’s largest hotel operators to identify and acquire a prime North Michigan Avenue area site for its luxury hotel operation, Sofitel. Fifield had a previous relationship with Accor as the developer and coowner of Hotel Sofitel in Rosemont (Ohare Airport) Il. With Accor Northamerica we negotiated the purchase of a 26,000 sf site at Wabash and Chestnut Streets, one block from Michigan Avenue and Water Tower Place. After conducting an architectural competition between Helmut Jahn, Lucien Lagrange and Jean-Paul Viguier, an architectural committee chose Viguier’s Modernist design that is represented in the photo above. This 415-room luxury hotel opened in June 2002 and has become the darling of architectural critics for its bold and elegant design.
